PRESS RELEASE

Cyril Jefferson Calls for Bold Action on Soaring Cost of Living

High Point, NC – Mayor of High Point and candidate for North Carolina’s 6th Congressional District, Cyril Jefferson, is calling for immediate federal action to address the skyrocketing cost of living affecting working families across the North Carolina and the nation.

Citing a recent poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, Jefferson pointed to alarming numbers showing that more than half of Americans (53%) view grocery prices as a major source of stress. Additionally, a majority of respondents expressed concern about their salaries, housing costs, savings, credit card debt, and the rising cost of healthcare.

“These numbers reflect what I hear from families every day, from High Point to Salisbury to Kannapolis: people are doing everything right and still falling behind,” said Jefferson. “The cost of living has become a crisis, and Washington needs leaders who understand what it means to live paycheck to paycheck—and are ready to act.”

Jefferson’s campaign is advancing a comprehensive policy platform focused on:

  • Fighting Grocery Inflation: Strengthening food supply chains, expanding SNAP benefits, and cracking down on corporate price gouging to lower grocery costs.

  • Making Housing Affordable: Expanding federal support for affordable housing, modernizing zoning laws, and protecting renters from skyrocketing rents and evictions.

  • Raising Wages: Advocating for a living wage and ensuring pay equity.

  • Reducing Debt and Building Stability: Reforming credit systems, expanding debt relief programs, and creating savings incentives for working families.

  • Lowering Healthcare Costs: Capping out-of-pocket expenses, expanding public insurance options, and increasing transparency across the healthcare system.

“The basics of food, housing, and healthcare should not be luxuries,” Jefferson continued. “We must build an economy where every family can live with dignity, not debt. In Congress, I will fight to bring real relief to the kitchen tables of North Carolina’s working families.”

Jefferson, a High Point resident and community advocate, has built his career on creating opportunities and bringing people together to solve real problems. As Mayor, he’s led local efforts to increase affordable housing, support small businesses, and strengthen public infrastructure. "We need to cut red tape and make government work better, so it's easier to build homes, grow small businesses, and improve public infrastructure in our communities,” Jefferson said.

“This campaign is about more than a seat in Congress. It’s about securing a future where everyday people can thrive, not just survive,” said Jefferson. “I’m ready to take that fight to Washington.”
